A Strange Old Bloke
A Memory of Portstewart.
I remember old Folie (his real name was Skillen) at his house at The Crescent. I can remember he was fond of the company of young folk and would be free with his drink as he told their fortunes.
His adopted son Tommy suffered a very sad end.
Folie aka Skillen was brought-up as a Catholic but the Church took a dim view of his snake-oil selling, fortune-telling, and adherence to Aleister Crowley's teaching. In an act of ire, he publicly broke with the Church and in an act, quite short of the Diet of Worms, financed a loyalist band in the town for a short while.
I always found him to be a very strange old boy,
Regards,
.
