Pottrs Bar Fur Stores 1959

A Memory of Potters Bar.

I was born in Potters Bar in 1957, my grandad owned Potters Bar Fur Stores, his name was David Kantor. I used to visit as a little girl, it smelt of moth balls, and my jewish aunties, Sadie and Fay worked on the sewing machines. I can't find any history on this shop, but would love to hear some memories? We moved to Hertfordshire in 1961 but I still visited the shop and went to Delmars and Woolworths. My Uncle was a signalman Maurice Kantor and Uncle Len was in the Navy, they were both bikers! They lived on Barnet Road and the sweet shop next door was called Duncleys ?? someone called Maude worked there and scared me! I have lots of family still there, Merrins, Radfords, Cox

I was also born in 1957. Your family were neighbours when we lived in Wroxham Gardens. As a child I had many fur items and toys my mother fashioned from gifted offcuts. I remember visiting the shop ofen and would see David, Sadie and Fay hard at work. They always had time for us and were very welcoming. Fond childhood memories.
I stll have my late mothers fur coat made by your family!
One of my very good car club friends is a David Cantor. He manufactures contact lenses in Hemel Hempstead and Brackley. I have sent a link to this in case he is (quite likely) related.
