Rickmansworth, The Canal 1897

More about this scene
This view from the tow-path looking towards Church Street is now very much changed. By 1796 the Grand Junction Canal passed through Rickmansworth on its way from Brentford on the Thames to Braunston. Here, utilising the course of the River Colne, the canal goes left of the island under the bridge. Batchworth Lock House beside it survives, but all else is changed: the island now sports a 1990s office block, Trinity Court, the far right has a riverside Tesco's. The mills, houses and chimney have all gone.
