Completed in 1731, Rokeby was designed by its owner, the amateur architect Sir Thomas Robinson, son-in-law of Lord Carlisle of Castle Howard. Sir Thomas's other work included the Gothic Revival gateway at Auckland Castle and the Mausoleum at Castle Howard.
