The library was donated by the town's other benefactor, Thomas Blake, in 1873 – it is located towards the bottom of Broad Street. He also had the Baptist church rebuilt in Broad Street.

I remember having spent a few years of my childhood as an evacuee in a place called lea. The address was 4 cross cottages eccels wall lea. My sister also was with me there, it was the most memorable time of my life. The lady we lived with and her Daughter Kitty was very very kind to us.
