Old Boarding School

A Memory of Saffron Walden.

Hi,
My sister and I were at a boarding school in the early to mid 1960's in Saffron Walden does anyone know it's name, I think my mum use to refer to it as audley end but looking at the pictures that seems a lot bigger than I remember. They were not great memories it was a harsh environment and by today's standards almost Victorian. Thanks Steve

Hello Steve, my wife lived in Saffron Walden as a child, the only school she can think of was called The Friends School which is a Quaker School. Hope it helps.
Yes, I remember that school because I lived in West Road which runs parallel with Mount Pleasance on the south side. I lived in West Road as a child in the '50's and '60's, The Friends School was exclusively for childen from Quaker families, but later it was opened up to non Quakers. The School closed on 7th July 2017 and went into administration on17th July and is being (has been?) sold to cover the debts.
