More about this scene
The main body of Salisbury Cathedral was completed in a short span of forty years between 1220 and 1260, so the interior has an impressive architectural unity. The light Chilmark limestone, quarried only ten miles away, contrasts with the dark Purbeck marble of the slender shafts supporting the arches. To the right we can see the canopy of the Bishop's seat.
