Moving east off The Wolds, our tour reaches the flat land between them and the sea, with its high line of rolling marram-grassed sand dunes as a backdrop. Saltfleet lies just behind the dunes, but is a remnant of the medieval town and port a little further east, long washed away by the sea. The brick tower windmill of 1770 and 1890 survives, minus its sails, and has been well-converted into a house.

My First Memories Of Saltfleet
My first visit to Saltfleet was as a 12 year old in 1956. A relative , Kitty Scherdel was managing the Sunnydale site for local farmer George Tuxworth and had recently moved a converted bus there from South Yorkshire and we stayed in that. Memories Of Kingswood Caravan Site/Saltfleet
I spent many happy years at Kingswood Caravan Site (now Tuxworth Holiday Park). My nanna & granddad (Henry "Sailor" & Nellie Toyne) started using the site in the 1960's until the 1990's, althrough my granddad died in 1988, my nanna continued until her mobility let her down. Facilities at Kingswood would have been considered "primitive" today. No electricity, other than the lights ...see more

My Life In Wonderful Saltfleet...
We started on Sunnydale after leaving Sea View, thank you Peter Scott,It was the start of 35yrs of magic in my life. Cockles, eels, fishing, canooing and many memories of female company. Followed on with more wonderful times with my wife and 3 boys. Such wonderful times will live with me forever,,

Wartime, North Somercotes
My father was Rev R G Cowie, who was before Rev Reece Jones. We came to North Somercotes in 1939 from Newcastle and I had an idyllic childhood in the vicarage. I remember a bomb fell in South Somercotes, I also remember picking up silver foil from the lawn in the mornings. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
