Growing Up In Sandiacre
A Memory of Sandiacre.
I lived on Longmoor Lane, 101, and have fond but distant memories of the 50's and 60's. There were still stables for the canal tow horses at the foot of the bridge crossing the canal in Sandiacre town centre. I played with friends on the fields behind the canal, but also on the Springfields Farm. Our house backed onto the farm and I spent many happy hours helping, harvesting the corn, still in stooks then, potato picking (Backache) and milking with Eric and Martin the cowhands. The aluminium churns were placed at the foot of the farm drive on a wooden stand for the Dairy's collection on Longmoor Lane. Victor Woodward was the farmer, and his wife, a lovely lady who knew how to cook old style. Her toast in mid morning was a welcome feast for the farm hands. She had two daughters; Anne & Mary. I went to the Friesland County Sec Mod school and recall sculpting the wire work bull that stood in the schools entrance for many years. I wonder if it still survives. I had two girlfriends, both lovely local gals; Jenny (Gray) and Penny (Whyman) and went onto marry the latter and Penny and I now live in Devon. I would love to hear of the happenings and life of Jenny, with who I lost contact many years back.

I've asked all of my contacts if any know or knew Pat Hull and unfortunately they didn't but some will make enquiries so at least someone may come up with information. I hope you and your family are well and happy. Good to talk with you, Kind Regards, Alan Hickman
