I too remember holidaying here with my family in the late 60s, early 70s. In fact I have just revisited the island and paid homage to Seaview. Nothing has changed much, except the old hotel at the end of Pier Rd has gone. The house looks remarkably the same. Great memories!
Our September holidays were spent at "Shoreside", the grand old house in the centre of the photo.
Back then it was owned by Colonel and Mrs Farquhar and Colonel Summers, my nan worked for the Farquhars in Wiltshire and was given leave to use the house for her families' annual holidays.

I moved to Seaview in 1983 from Kent, the magical feeling Seaview had and the few minutes walk from our house to Seagrove Bay was wonderful. I worked for the Flamingo Park for a short time and then at the Seaview Hotel where I was the Receptionist. In the summer of 1960 I spent my Westminster Hotel School holiday working at The Pier Hotel in Seaview, Isle of Wight, mostly working in the dining room (that white windowed section protruding on the left).
Funnily, I don't recall much of the working part of the summer. I don't think it was very enjoyable and, as a first year student, I hadn't had much experience and had not yet fulfilled the restaurant ...see more
I have been told that Jim Mollison (pilot), husband of Amy Johnson (also pilot), used to frequent the Starboard Club. Can anyone remember where he stayed in Seaview?
It isn't really my memory, as it was before my time. My grandfather, was the owner of the Starboard Club and my father was born on the top floor in 1963. I have no memories myself, only those that my father has told me. He grew up in Seaview until my grandfather sold the club in the early 70's and moved the family to Cambridge. Our family does not have many photos from that time and as this is the first photo I have found, I thought I would comment on it.
My Seaview experiences started from shortly after I was born and go right up to the present day. I'm from Reading, Berks, but our whole family used to rent a big house somewhere in Seaview every summer for a holiday. I spent much of my childhood and teenage years staying at my Aunt and Uncle's house in Ryde Road as my gran lived there too and latterly my mum until 2002. The houses have not changed much over the years but there are a lot more cars parked there now in the summer months! I have such happy memories of all my holidays spent there and would love to retire to the Island some day.
I worked at the Pier Hotel in the summer of 1960. It was my first job. I was a commis waiter ..didn't really like it at all...but I was billeted out at a nearby village. I had my first drunk drinking scrumpy mixed with cheap red wine with Italian waiters from the hotel in the pub in Seaview..an experience which brought me great suffering and required my taking the next day off work in order that I would not die !
