Selby, Old Toll Bridge 1918

During WW2 my uncle Bob was billited in the area, and my mother took me up to visit him. I was only a child, but I have a memory of being allowed to stand on this bridge while it was being turned. Was this possible? I also have a memory of being near the river and seeing some sort of factory transport system which ran on overhead rail, and a lad on a rowing boat with one oar at the back sculling downstream at a fair old pace.

Hello, I have some fond memories of my old school....but also some not so fond ones! Remember Miss Hingley bringing me to the front of the class after an assembly as I had been spotted chatting!....she slapped me on the legs so much I remember being on the floor! Me and Mrs Perry, Stan and Joyce were my beloved grandparents. You probably had different memories of them to me as I was a spoilt only child of Kathryn Perry, and my auntie Karen Perry. We moved up to Selby from Swindon in 1960 and I went to Flaxley Road. Apart from having to lose my west country accent in double quick time in order to survive, I was put in Miss Reid's class which was a big shock to the system. Boy, was she loud and scary!
