More about this scene

The solid stone structure of the Midland Bank building stands at the central junction, where the main A225 to Deptford is crossed by the A25 linking Maidstone and Westerham. The old Victorian drinking fountain with its ornate lamps stands isolated in the middle of the intersection, while on the right are branches of the International Stores and the National and Provincial Bank, shortly to be amalgamated into the National Westminster Bank.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

One of my Corke/Moon ancestors had a butchers shop in the ex Midland Bank building where the water fountain stands at the intersection. Another ancestor Elizabeth Corke had a dairy in the High Street and I believe other members of the Corke family had shops in the High Street.I recall my grandmother telling me they had a cattle market in the High Street and she had to drive home a cow that her father purchased.
