Incorrect Title
A Memory of Smallfield.
Chapel Road. The Ebenezer Chapel towards Outwood on the right is where the name was derived from. The Ebenezer Chapel was the most important building in that road. In the picture and to the right the road leads to Horley and was either Horley Road or Smallfield Road. Just around that corner there was a bus stop for the 424 bus, it was also where there was a good apple tree that overhang the road. It is where Arthur Putt the blacksmith had his forge, also situated next to the forge was the Wheelright of Budgen, there was one son Phil, a signwriter and a most unsociable person to us youngsters, he was always rude to us when we tried to learn from him, the only time he was pleasant was when he was collecting betting money for the bookmaker in his small shed. Opposite the road to Horley was/is New Road, a short unmade road. There were two important buildings in that road, Evans Garage and the Mens Club (no ladies were permitted). The road straight ahead was School Road named from the older school some distance to the south from the village centre.
