More about this scene
This 3,650ft-high mountain is the highest in England and Wales. Its Welsh name is Yr Wyddfa, said to mean 'the great burial place'. Today the mountain gives its name to the Snowdonia National Park, playground for outdoor sports enthusiasts. The area has always been hugely popular, ever since the first recorded ascent of Snowdon in 1639 by Thomas Johnson, a botanist.
