South Woodford And Historic Buildings
A Memory of South Woodford.
SOUTH WOODFORD LONDON E18
Does anyone have a photo of the old school outfitters on George Lane South Woodford? Think I got school uniform for Nightingale High School there around 1969.
I think the building was a curved 2 story turret and used to have beautiful curved dark wood and glass (including the internal passage way between the curved glass). Not sure if it was listed but wish it had been,*
It was possibly on corner of Marlbrough Rd/George Lane. Think it is a phone shop now!!!

*p.s. Lots of "regeneration" now is taking out good historic buildings so if you want to save 'em Look up your Local Plan 2033 (whatever London Borough you are in) and good luck making representation - ALL Railway Station Sites are targetted. Also look up London Plan

I have a recent picture , but not one from the 60's / 70's - We used to live in South Woodford up until 1976 and I went to Churchfields. I remember going in there with my mum to get my school uniform. It was old-fashioned inside - lots of wooden cabinets with pull out drawers, but I loved it. Very Grace Brothers. I am now based in Herts. But often go back up to take photo's of my old haunts and have many in and around George Lane. One day I will ask my mum to sort through her photographs and I might come across these 1960's nuggets. Kind Regards. John
