A Memory of Southall.

My father and my uncle had their shops on South Road. I used to visit on a Saturday morning. There was a small cafe a few doors away where a variety of drinks was served and where my father used to enjoy a Bovril- I expect that I had one of the favourite drinks of the day, a Horlicks as I tasted the Bovril once and did not like it! The National Provincial Bank was located at the junction with The Broadway, next to Burtons Outfitters; Cogswells Seed and Garden Merchants were further along South Road. Southall in 1910 had been a small country town with its own blacksmith, and it was here in leafy Townsend Road that my family lived !

Are there any keen swimmers who belonged to the Southall Swimming Club? I discovered recently from a newspaper article, that my father and Uncle who owned ' Wood Bros' in South Road, presented a swimming cup to the club, appropriately named the Wood Cup! Where is that cup now I wonder? I'd like to think that it is still being presented to a promising young swimmer

Does anyone have any knowledge of The Southall Development Syndicate with Registered London Offices. The Syndicate was wound up around 1922.
