Sparkbrook In The 40s

A Memory of Sparkbrook.

I lived in Hickman road Sparkbrook from 1941 to1950 my mother was moved there after being bombed out twice in the war I loved it there and had lots of friends there, I remember V.E day and the bonfire, in the street to celebrate the end of the war , my dad was still in the army so wasn't there to celebrate with the adults it was a time of relief or grief to the but it was a great time for kids I remember the Currigans and the Barrs also the Thomlinson s and the greens they were a lovely bunch of people and would share what ever they had when things were tight I should think the kids in the street all came home to the same meal quite often .I can remember the new Waldorf cinema being built but I preferred the Piccadilly better .One of my schools was grace road and I had an number of friends there one of them came out of Sydenham road her kname was beryl Thomas and she had a best friend and they were never apart it would be nice to know what happened to everyone but I don't suppose there are many of them left now and probably impossible to find but I still haven the memories, but may be someone might see thisa just as I did with Scientia2000 and write to let us know what they remember about the 40s and Sparkbrook as once we have gone these memories have gone to so thank s for bringing back something worth remembering .
