Stamford, Red Lion Square 1922

More about this scene
The Square, one of the ancient market places of Stamford, appears as a pleasant pedestrian area before the dominance of the motorcar; a convention of delivery boys is taking place around the gaslight. The shop on the right is occupied by Finlay's shoe shop, as is attested by the display outside — today it is the HSBC Bank. On the wall above the shop we can see the old sign from the long-closed Red Lion Inn from which the square takes its name. On the left is Andrew Dale Jackson's glass, china and general stores, with a butcher's shop beside it.
