More about this scene
This is Thomas Telford's iron bridge, crossing the River Severn at its junction with the River Avon. Constructed in 1826, and with a single arched span of a hundred and seventy six feet, it was considered an engineering marvel at the time of its completion. On the extreme left is the small tollhouse at the bridge's eastern approach.
