A Memory of Tidmarsh.
When I was a kid, in the early 50's I lived in Tilehurst, and an excursion on our bikes was to ride to Sulham Woods, look for rabbits, adders and pick bluebells. The best part was to go down to Tidmarsh and sit in the stocks and pretend to be poor peasants. I can't find any history of the pillory now, but it is clear in my mind, as was the ford we crossed on our bikes in the road. Long time ago, but still live in my nostalgic haze!
