More about this scene

Tolpuddle will always be an important place in English history. From here six farm labourers were transported to Australia in 1834 for taking an illegal oath in their quest for union recognition and better wages and conditions. This harsh treatment shocked the world, eventually winning the Martyrs a pardon which allowed them to come home.
