Derwent Hotel 1970s

A Memory of Torquay.

I worked at the Derwent hotel in 1973 & 1974. I came from Sheffield with a friend to work the season but ended up working 2 seasons. It was then owned by Mr Morel & the manager was Mr Sorrentino. It was a great hotel to work in - I met many friends but no longer in touch. Lived in house with some of the girls I worked with owned by mr Sorrentino. I have some fantastic memories & sad we lost touch when we all came home: I met my Spanish husband at the hotel the first day I worked, he was doing seasonal work too, we live in Cheshire now & celebrate our golden wedding next year. I have some fantastic memories of Torquay -clubbing at the Compass nightclub. Torquay was a beautiful classy resort then . Lots of changes since then - it’s been spoilt by demolition of old buildings to build new shopping arcades, it was a much nicer place in the early 70s - most memorable times we all had, often wonder if the friends I met think about the great times we all had working at the Derwent Hotel together.
