What It Used To Be 1990s 2010
A Memory of Wallington.
I was a teenager, I used to live in Carshalton from 1986, I went to St Philomenas between 1990-1996, I remember passing through Roundshaw Estate to use the libraries, there were fewer houses and it was just a massive field with just flats. It wasn't safe to hang around.
I moved into Wallington in 1997 and used Roundshaw library and Wallington library more frequently, in 2004 10th October I moved into Roundshaw. Roundshaw library was rebuilt inside the leisure centre and was made part of Pheonix Centre 2006.
The Sutton Borough, around Oct/ Nov 2006, decided to transfer the estate over to Roundshaw homes and make it independent. I joined the steering group to help redesign the estate. There was a ballot to help tranfer the estate and the community got involved.
In 2007- 2010 flats were knocked down, new houses and flats were built, people moved in, the community grew with Roundshaw homes. Committees were created and the Roundshaw Community Board supported everyone. It was a scary time for everyone.
