Long Lost Love

A Memory of Weeford.

I never really knew of Weeford even tho I was born and brought up in Birmingham and travelled to Lichfield, Cannock and many places around that area. This fact changed tho a couple of years ago when after trying to find old frieinds, mates and old girl friends, I contacted the sister of a girlfriend of mine from back in the early 60's, 63-64 to be spot on.
I had met this girl at Spring Hill ice-rink in November 1962 and fell in love with her and so started a relationship that lasted until July 1964 when we split up. I never forgot this girl and always thought that one day we would contact each other with memories of the past, but what I found out shocked me. I was informed that this woman who would have been 60 had died at the age of 30 and had been found, drowned in the water meadows in Weeford after going missing for 2 weeks. That year was 1977 and the woman's name was Barbara. What always puzzled me was the fact she was a very good swimmer and how she died is a mystery to me. All this info was given to me by her sister on the Friends Reunited site.
So Weeford will always be in my memory forever. One day soon I shall visit Barbara's grave in the new graveyard at Weeford church.
RIP Barbara
