Wembley High Street

A Memory of Wembley.

i remember a tea rooms before you got to Blands called Mitchell's which had wood paneling and blue check tablecloths around the 1950 period. My husband lived in the flat above the butchers shop on the corner of Ealing road. Next door to the butchers was a corn chandlers that used to have baby chickens in the window for sale. They would be about 2 days old! My motherinlaw worked in the butcher shop across the street nr the china shop, which would be opposite Sainsburys. I worked at Lightfoot Refrigeration off the North a Circular Road and used to walk to the High Road thru Lyon Park Avenue. I earned £5 per week as a secretary. My husband worked for Mr Reynolds a trainer at Wembley Dogs for about 4 years anyone remember the stadium back in the early 50s. I also remember the small plane which used to stand in Barham Park in front of the big house in there. Henry Cooper lived in Fryant way I believe nr the Town Hall. I lived in Sudbury Hill and went to Horsenden Lane School. I remember seeing the doodlebug which hit the Glaxo.
