More about this scene

The River Idle once permitted waterborne trading to Bawtry, 11 miles up from the Trent. It was also important in draining the nearby Isle of Axholme and the two steam pumping stations once controlled the river level. The bridge, visible further upriver, crossed Misterton Soss, a 17th century lock designed to maintain navigation but derelict by the 1950's.
