More about this scene

The Red Lion Inn and the small medieval chapel next to it have served travellers passing along the Icknield Way at the river crossing for more than 500 years. In 1622 it offered accommodation for servants of the royal household. When the railway from London to Cambridge was opened, the inn became a hotel.
