Winchelsea, The Friary 1906

More about this scene
Here the photographer looks down St Thomas Street into Friary Walk, with the corner of the churchyard wall on the right. The novelist Ford Madox Ford once lived in a house on the left beyond the bay window, The Little House. Friary Walk leads, beyond the gates, to Greyfriars, a Victorianised house built originally in 1819. In its garden is the chancel of a Franciscan church built around 1310: quite a garden folly.
