Wivenhoe is situated on the River Colne. Here we have a view of the High Street at a quiet time. In the foreground is the railway, and further back stands the church of St Mary the Virgin. The Grosvenor Hotel on the right has now gone, and the building houses shops. Today the University of Essex campus is to the north-west of the town.
