A Memory of Woodford Bridge.

I was born in Gaynes Hill Road in 1941. Was the shop you are writing about John Bankils (or similar spelling) oposite Gaynes Hill Road. I can remember going to the shop for my Dad many times, I can almost remember the men that worked there, always in brown coats. One I remember had lots of curly hair, I think he lived in one of the roads off of Gaynes Hill. The shop always smelt of parafin. We last lived in Woodford Bridge in 1982

Hi Doreen,
I lived in R. Cheeke & Co., the estate agents you see in the picture from 1934 until I married in 1955 when I moved to No.13, Gaynes Hill Road. I then moved on to live in Harlow.
I have many, many happy memories of life in "The Bridge"
Norman.
Hi Norman, my sister Joyce and her husband lived at 17 Haynes hill road before moving to a bigger house across the road.I remember a Smith family living your side, they were involved with Canfield road church. Also I used to sit sometimes with the Bassett family at no 19. We moved to Clacton on sea 2 years ago.We went back to look at number 66 when I reached the age of 66 and it just wasn't the same. Did you go to Roding lane school? Did you have any children ? Regards. Doreen
Hi Doreen, it's been a long time since I was on this site so I sincerely hope you read this. I remember my Mother attending Canfield Hall church run by Dr. Smith I also went to Sunday School there during the war. There was also a Smith family who lived in Canfield road, I was friendly with Son Arthur who's Dad built a massive model railway system in their attic, I used to spend hours up there with Arthur.
Yes Doreen, I and married an Ipswich girl who was working as a Children's nurse in Monkhams Drive, we had 2 Sons and A daughter, I am now a Dad, Granddad & Great Granddad and living in Kent.
Lovely to speak with you again, Norman
