Playtime In Waltham Road

Hi Susan. I was born in gaynes hill road in 1941. My dad had an allotment behind the houses in Waltham road and I used to walk with him to pick his runner beans.We used to play down by the river roding, under the bridge where it wasn't deep and drag for tiddlers.I can remember a lorry crashing into that bridge. I went to Roding lane school and we were married in St Paul's church.
In1964..
We had a flat in south Woodford and then moved to our first house in Roding lane. Our four boys also went to Roding lane school. We moved to a bigger house in South woodham ferrers and moved on to Braintree.we have lived in Clacton on sea for 4 years now but look back often about growing up in Woodford bridge.

Hi Doreen, we moved to Waltham Road when I was 5 (1953). What a coincidence, I moved into a flat in South Woodford when I was married. It was in Avondale Court at the bottom of Churchfields.

Sorry make that 1958, I was born in 1953!! 🤔

Hello Susan, we lived in flat in Grove Road,on the other side to Gates garage ( gates corner) I think it was pulled down to make way for the big road construction. I used to love walking down to the George lane shops with a twin pushchair and our little dog sitting in the middle. Our eldest son went to Churchfields school for two years before we moved to Riding Lane

Hello Doreen, my son went to Churchfiels infants and juniors. I used to walk into George Lane with my pram too. I also used to walk to Wanstead along the high road to visit my nan.

Hi Susan. My son Neil is now 53 and was at Churchfiels in1968, I wonder if they knew each other. I also had a friend Sylvia Albone who lived in the flats opposite the Majestic cinema. Her son was Christopher and was the same age as Neil
