Living In Wrockwardine 1980's

A Memory of Wrockwardine.

The church was the view from my bedroom window. I lived in the Old Smithy for a few years, renting the property from a very posh estate agents from Shrewsbury.
It was cheap. But had no heating, & electrics that tripped out when you turned the cooker on. So my friend & myself survived on food cooked on a camping stove & a slow cooker/deep fat fryer. Or, if we were feeling flush, a pub snack from the Plough Inn at Allscott.
On a positive note, it had a useful barn & vegetable garden out the back.
Heating was open fires, luckily there was a garage on the main road that sold coal & logs. The village shop was still open, & there was a very infrequent bus service to Wellington.
Tragically my friend was seriously injured in an accident, & he had to give up work for some time. He went to convalesce at his girlfriends, & we could no longer afford the rent.
