Wroxeter, known in Roman times as Viroconium Cornovior, became a tribal capital and the fourth largest Roman town in Britain. The baths and the old work are seen here, with the remains of the hypocaust system used for distributing heat from the furnace. The wall on the left separated the exercise area, the palaestra, from the baths proper.
