More about this scene
Olantigh Towers 1901. Beside the waters of the Great Stour, this great house in its pleasant parkland marks the original birthplace in 1380 of Cardinal Kempe, the ecclesiastical statesman. He was close to both Henry V and Henry VI, and was responsible for the building of many fine churches; he also suppressed Jack Cade's Kentish rebellion after his appointment as Chancellor in 1450. This substantial mansion, with its impressive portico, has been rebuilt, and is one of three great houses along this stretch of the river.
