More about this scene

Further west, on the Stony Stratford to Northampton road, is another Yardley. Now quieter, thanks to a bypass, it once had a wharf on the Grand Junction Canal which passed a quarter of a mile north of the village. This view gives a good idea of the village's architectural mix, with older stone cottages with thatched roofs, mid 19th-century cottages with sash windows and slate roofs, and to the left of the shop (now a house) the gables of 1960s brick estate-style houses.
