More about this scene
Yarmouth's church was built between 1611 and 1614, and restored by the Victorians in 1873. Within is the impres- sive tomb of the Caroleon admiral Sir Robert Holmes. If the head on his effigy does not quite seem to match the body, that is because it was added later. The admiral captured a statue of Louis IV on a French vessel, and thought it would be ideal for his own monument. He paid a sculptor to add a new head.
