St. Margaret's Yeaton Pevery

A Memory of Yeaton Peverey.

I have seen two names I know well especially Rosie Ingles.
I went to St Margaret's boarding school from 1963 - 1967 approx. The house was very splendid and beautiful. I wish I could have appreciated it then to the history of the building.
Headmistress Miss Heinslein and deputy Mrs Scott they terrified me. Being adopted they were not kind and use to say I was thick and stupid !
The fond memories were far and few between, I cried most nights in the most uncomfortable bed ever of horse hair mattress and wrought iron pale cream bed. As Rosie said, we had marrow on Sunday's along with having to memorise the psalm of that Sunday ! It,s laughable now but that Sunday we had to wear Wellies even galoshes over our shoes, walk in single file through a pig field to church. We had to wear our Sunday best uniforms and in the summer they would be pale yellow silk dresses ! With white gloves and cream bowler hats - so impractical!!!!!!

The food was not good either. !!!

There was a old fashioned lift to take our trunks up into the dormitory. That end of the house was very creepy !
Summer holidays were a blissful break but going back for the next years term (Michaelmas) was just too awful. The new intake of pupils and I felt sorry for them - first time away from home and two very strict heads of the school was enough to terrify anyone ?!
Did we learn anything ? A little perhaps ? Learning how to be a " Lady " who knows !!!!

I would love to hear from Rosie and any other girls who were at the school. I reckon we could write a very good book !!!

Would love to view the house again for old times sake but it seems that it is a private dwelling and rather luxurious - very different to those days at school. Please get in touch. Liz ( Rawlins ) that was !
