More about this scene
Known locally as 'the church of the four ones' because it was founded in AD1111, St Mary's is the town's parish church. It has been much altered over the centuries, but note the unusual clerestory windows above the nave. In 1658, George Fox (founder of the Society of Friends, or Quakers) appeared here and argued with the parish priest, only to be violently ejected.
