More about this scene
Ulverston evolved as a market town for the surrounding farms and villages, and required many cafes and inns to meet the demands for refreshment on market day. The photograph was taken from the Sun Inn and looks across to three other pubs. Behind the war memorial is a seed and agricultural merchant, an important store in a rural town.
