Morland House Childrens Home

A Memory of Wheatley.

I was taken into care when i was only two years old in 1951 and came to Wheatley to live in a childrens home for a while it was called Morland house. The only memory i have is having some trouble in a swimming pool and someone fishing me out with some kind of net

Hi Liza

Please feel free to email me at cathropaul@msn.com
I was at the home in the very early 1980's; I remember very few people as they came and went, but I do remember a chap called called David who shared my room and loved his toy tractors. There were three sisters there while I was and of course Christopher Bonnier (great guy), while the older kids lived in a small upstairs area.

Mr Duckmanton ran the home and I think Jane was my House Mum. I have to admit I was fortunate enough to get on really well with Mr Duckmantons oldest daughter, so when I had to return home I was deverststed, partly because I knew the issues at home were still apparent, but more so because I had a great life there, so often sat in Mr Duckmantons house with Moyra listening to Duran Duran with Peter popping his head round the door every ten minutes to check on us. Mr Duckmanton was a lovely and fair man at all times, he made the time there very pleasant even with the issues we may have all had at home.

I hope you're all keeping well and my thanks to the Duckmantons.

Peter
