The union flags are out: perhaps the local people were celebrating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. The scene has not changed much today, other than the inevitable increase in the volume of traffic through this delightful Cumbrian market town.

I will cherish forever my memories of Brookfield, I was 11 when I started at Brookfield in 1980. For the first year I hated every muniute of every day, but purseverance from my mum paid off. I can honestly say the remaining years were the best years of my life. My Mum and Gran worked at Brookfeild Maden - Name Sally Hill, Grans Name Fanny Hill.
My great-grandparents lived at the Mance House, Anthorn, Cumberland, they were the Marshall family. Alfred Bailey Marshall was a lay preacher there from about 1879 till about 1900, he was married to Emily Willoughby. They had quite a big family, my grandmother (Grace) being one of them.
