More about this scene
The fourth tour starts in Worksop, the largest town in north Nottinghamshire, often seen as the gateway to the Dukeries. We start at Worksop's finest building, the priory, formerly known as Radford Priory. The medieval town was at its gates, but moved westwards to its present location. The priory was founded around 1120. The present nave dates from the later 12th century, and of the abbey's east end only the superb Lady Chapel survives. The transepts with their two storeys of arches date from the 1920s and 1930s, while a modern central tower with a slender spire and a choir was erected from 1966 to 1974 by Laurence King.
