Worksop, Priory Gatehouse c.1955

More about this scene
Of the priory buildings, only the mid 14th- century gatehouse survives, with the medieval market cross in front. To the right of the central archway a delicate and elegant 14th-century porch led to a small chapel within. It was restored in 1912 at a cost of £550 and again in the 1940s, this time at a cost of £9,500. It is a fortunate survival, and gives some idea of the size of the priory's grounds, as the church is some distance away.
