In November 1869, William T Gunner of Will Hall wrote in his diary: 'walked with Fred Crowley to see the site of his new house [Ashdell House, seen in this photograph]; he will be married shortly.' Five months later, William and his wife went to visit the newly weds and 'after our call we walked up Hill field & looked over the works there. Fred is laying down money & no mistake.' After the deth of Frederick Crowley, Ashdown was acquired by Guy Ferrand, who changed the name to Morland Hall.
