i remeber one night walking from keith road over to the harrow pub to get some fags for me mum cos me dad was compere at most of the pubs around barking and as i walked past eatsbury house i saw wot i thought was a guy hanging from the scaffold but l8er found out it was a young man who had hung himslef cos of a break up with his long time girlfriend
Does anyone remember rosebank caravan park on the london rd going into Clacton ? (little Clacton I believe) the robin hood pub was close by and right next to the caravan park was a little farm that sold the best tomatoes I have ever tasted. Hi our family used to live at 90 Victoria rd, I remember playing with a girl called Karen harter who lived at the end of Victoria rd, this was late 50s early sixtys, my 2 sisters and me went to northbury school before moving to Salisbury ave. anyone know what ever happened to Karen? would love to make contact again. kevin edwards
I remember the shops in Barking very well when I was a child. One of my favourite shops was Bullies the Jewellers, you couldn't miss it because it had a great big clock flush with the pavement at the entrance. I used to dribble at the sight of all the jewels. The other shops were M&S by the swimming baths, and Woolworth's, they had a cafe at the back of the shop which made the best milkshakes. I also remember a ...see more
As a school-boy I had a job working for W.H.Smith at Barking Station. I started when I was twelve on a paper round, but after a short while the shop manager, Albert Hedges, decided I could work one of the platform sub-stalls. Id love to here more about the Nissan Huts in Barking Park, my late husband Allan Longden had so many happy memories of his childhood days there, swimming in the lake and the lido. Can anyone tell me wherebouts the huts were located. Sue Longden
I remember starting school at Westbury School. I loved it when my little sister Sharon Saint start infants there while i was in the juniors. ALways being protective I used to sneak round to the infants part and sit with her making sure she was safe
I was born in Barking Hospital in 1967 but my family moved into Upney House at Faircross in 1953 I believe, this may have been when these were first built. I have lots of memories of Faircross Parade, mostly of the different shops that came and went. To my knowledge, the branch of Bartons Barkers in the late 1970's became one of the first bakers in the area to bake it's own bread on the premises. Preedy's newsagents used ...see more
Does anyone remember going to Thames View Infants late 50's early 60's.I remember Miss Hobson the headmistress and Miss Plummer and Miss Keithley who were my teachers.It was a great school and I remember going into assembly and Miss Hobson playing music that I actually liked.'Jesu Joy of Man's desiring' 'Elizabethan Serenade''Greensleeves'.It's amazing the small things you remember! I was born in Barking, Suffolk Road, in 1938. Elder son of David & Edith Wardell (nee Fenn), and lived there until I married in 1964. My mother's family had lived in Barking for several generations, with Grandad Fenn living in Fisher Street St, Margarets Road and Sparsholt Road. Grandma Fenn was born in Barking as was her Mother.
