More about this scene

Two miles south-west of Othery, the Taunton Road skirts the Mump, a natural tor rising steeply from the surrounding Moors. Seen here from beyond the River Parrett, it once had a castle; now it is crowned by the altered medieval tower of St Michael's church, another example of this dedication on a hill site. Attached are the remains of a church started in 1724. The early 19th-century former rectory is on the left. The Mump is a remarkable landscape feature with echoes of Glastonbury Tor.

A Selection of Memories from Burrowbridge

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Burrowbridge

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I was born in 1943, I don't remember much until school years at Burrowbridge Primary, head teacher was Mr Brazier. My father used to be 'Jack of all trades', he used to recharge the old accumulaters, run the bakery, he used to make pop, Mother ran the shop and Gran used to run the post office and telephone exchange. Me and my brothers used to bake bread, make cakes and do deliveries, and my sister helped Mum.
