This image is a Reference Print: it has not been shown on our website before as it has not been optimised and therefore may not meet the quality standards we require for use in our normal product range. However, we understand that this image could be potentially important for genealogical, local history or architectural research and so we are showing it on the website for on-line research only. The photo may be available to buy, but needs to be checked and optimised before you can place an order.

Why are these different? All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Caergwrle

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I grew up in Hope Village from about 1940 to 1948. I used to go to the Derby Cinema for the Saturday Matinee. I remember the cashier was Mr. Eccleston who lived a couple of houses away from the cinema. He was short and rotund and we used to call him "Harry Eck" We used to walk down from Hope, and always checked out the red telephone kiosk down the street from the cinema to see if anyone had forgotten their change in ...see more
My Dad Glynn Hayes Bellis was born in Caergwrle in 1932. He has a brother Tony and sisters Elena, Lynne and Christine. He lived on one of the farms with my Nan and Grandad. Did anyone know the family and where about in the village they lived? Thanks Juliette Reeves (nee Bellis)
Anybody from Hope / Caergwle, got any photos, handbills, posters, paper cuttings etc..on the boxing brothers the Fighting Fieldings? Obviously I would pay for them, as I'm researching for doing a book on boxers from North Wales. I know Bobby was the the one who fought two world champions; Jackie Brown and Benny Lynch. Look forward to any replies.
Yes I used to walk from the Lump, with Micky, Idris, Arthur Cartwright, Brian Merredith, Neville Shone and more. One of us would pay and some of us try to crawl past the little pay window and get in for free. Great memories.
