Nostalgic memories of Clapham's local history

Share your own memories of Clapham and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My Clevett family originated from Clapham, from the early 18th century.A large family that spread to neighbouring villages like Patching and Angmering and also to larger Worthing.I am sure that many are buried in unmarked graves in the beautiful churchyard. There no reminders of my family at Clapham now but I was proud to take descendants of the Clevett family from North America & Canada to Clapham to show where they originate from.I also visit the village regularly.
I visited Clapham and the Church in the summer of 1999.  At different periods during the 1800's my Collins family lived and worked there. Thomas Collins of Burpham was buried at Clapham on September 13th, 1855 at 55.  His first wife Charlotte Ayling is also buried there 1822 and his second wife who remarried and known as Sarah Mills Collins TUESLEY in 1876.
