Kingston Upon Thames, On The River c.1950

More about this scene
Most of the Thames passenger pleasure launches were steam powered up to the Second World War and were converted to diesel engines afterwards. The 1950s saw an increase in day trips, as people who might not have had the money available for holidays could afford the odd day out on the Thames. The 'Clifton Castle', fully loaded, is heading downstream.
