More about this scene
Victorian travellers and writers, such as Dickens and Tennyson, all came to England's most westerly point and admired its rugged grandeur. The solid granite buttresses of the Land's End seem to have remained unchanged for ever, but it is the passing steam ship aided by three sails that puts this photograph into its period.
